Living simply while loving the journey

Living a simple life while trying to thrive in everything we do. If we don't do what we love, it isn't worth doing!

Questions you may be pondering...

One of my friends just wrote me on facebook asking some questions that I am sure some of you are wondering as well. 1.) what made you want to do it?
I have been wanting to do this for about as long as I can remember, but only in the last 2 years has it really been something that Travis and I have been seriously considering. About a year ago we wrote down a budget as if we were on the road. We thought that it would be too much at the time, seeing as how there was not a trailer in sight. When we looked in the paper and found 2 free trailers we thought we had hit gold, but further looking into them, it would have cost about $15,000 to repair all the damage. So we found "Delilah" (official name of the trailer :) for only $500. We figured that was a great start! (In a future blog, I will put total expenses of fixing the trailer and then a travel budget)
Where you going to travel to?
I would love to travel everywhere in the 50 states, but that takes money. So I am sure we will stay somewhat local to begin with and have more Vacation type stays at further away places. We will most likely stay in our San Bernardino Mountains and Burbank (where my family lives) for the first couple months. See how long we can boondock (staying in a place that doesn't have hookups). After the first couple of months I would love to venture to Texas to see my brother and his wonderful family, then head on over to Arkansas to visit my Aunt. After that we shall see.
Did you guys save up, or are you going to work in various places on the way?
Mainly we are putting most of our money into the trailer to get it going right now. We are putting aside money into savings for emergencies, and then more money into paying off debt. That way we are debt free, or close to, by the time we are ready to hit the road. We are going to be working on the road. I will be working at events (outrigger, skating, surfing, running, biking) massaging people. I have done massages at these events in the past and I love them. So I will be massaging people in campgrounds, events and everywhere else that I can set up a table. :) Travis will be working on the mountain doing handyman and construction jobs for a couple weeks at a time, then we can head off to do an event, come back to work construction and so on. I know a lot of people that do 4 months of working and take 2 off, and rotate like that. I think we will be finding jobs working campgrounds, and anything else that will keep us in nature.

Thank you so much for the questions and I am really glad that you are finding this exciting along side of us. Thank you so much for the support!

Busy Bees

So the past 2 days Travis has spent most of the day pulling flooring, 2x2's and subfloor out of the camper. We were watching a show a couple weeks ago about a guy redoing his Travel Trailer, he ended up taking it down to just the frame and redoing that too. I looked at Travis and said, "Hopefully that isn't what we have to do!" Well, it looks like we just keep taking things out more and more. I would rather do it know, then be on the road for 6 months and find out that we need to do something about it then.
I will post new pictures on tomorrow's blog.

It looks like I am going to be doing a lot of massages, and Travis lots of handyman work to get this venture going! Thanks for keeping up with us.It is nice to know that we will have followers and supporters along the way!

The Demolition...it just keeps going...

So we bought this '86 Travel Trailer last month and decided that we would fix it up and live in it. We knew that we wanted to rip all of the stuff out of it, but thought we would be able to keep the floors, paneling, and many other things... we thought wrong. So here we are now cupboards, paneling, plumbing, floor ALL ripped out! Here are some pics of the original stuff that was in it, plus some of the stuff already torn out! Wow what a project!

The Adventure Begins

Our new home '86 Road Runner
While starting out with a blog my intention is to make a keepsake of our travels. We are excited yet know that this is not going to be always an easy thing. We understand that people feel that we might be making the wrong decision or going outside the box, but that is ok. You are allowed to experience all of those things and even share them. We are rehabbing a '86 Road Ranger 28' Travel Trailer. We have a 4 month old son and a 10 month old puppy. Life is exciting to say the least. We are going to be posting pictures of the demolition and reconstruction of our trailer and then our journey on the road. I hope you will join us in what should be a wild and fun experience!
